Congrats Aussies*

Sunday, April 29, 2007 3:15:12 AM (GMT Standard Time, UTC+00:00)

I'm sure the majority of people would say that Australia had the World Cup in-the-bag from a while ago and today in Bridgetown Barbados, those thoughts were officially confirmed. "AUSTRALIA WIN ICC CWC 2007" I'm seeing on a number of web pages and news casts.. Now I don't dig cricket much but I must take my hat off to the Australians.. I believe they've gone 29 matches unbeaten (today being 29th).. and this is the third consecutive World Cup they've won. Congrats indeed! Check the official site for video, photos etc.

Iraq / Today.. "At least 58 people were killed in a car bomb attack Saturday between two Shiite shrines in the Iraqi city of Karbala, the Iraqi Interior Ministry said. The Interior Ministry called the attack, which also injured more than 100 people, a suicide bombing." (CNN)

ASP .NET Global.asax file*

Friday, April 27, 2007 7:46:50 PM (GMT Standard Time, UTC+00:00)

Maintaining values through postbacks, across pages etc. has always nicely been handled by asp2 and I for one am accustomed to the basic use of this functionality. Today however, I had the chance of expanding my knowledge and looking at maintaining values across Sessions.. using the Application object and the Global.asax file.

In my quest to find information on this file and methods such as Application_Start, Application_BeginRequest, Session_End and the like, my first source was MSDN. They have a nice write-up on the ASP.NET Application Life Cycle Overview and if you have half an hour or so, I recommend this read first. For me though, being the eager lad I am, I wanted to get immediately into it and this meant finding out (and getting in-your-face examples) about the Application object and Global.asax and it's methods.

For this information, I headed over to Working with the ASP.NET Global.asax file. This guy gives a brief description of the methods, when they're fired etc. and also gives some code examples in c# and vb. Good show!

Jesus had no servants, yet they called Him Master.
Had no degree, yet they called Him Teacher.
Had no medicines, yet they called Him Healer.
He had no army, yet kings feared Him. He won no military battles, yet He
conquered the world.
He committed no crime, yet they crucified Him.
He was buried in a tomb, yet He lives today.

I feel honoured to serve such a Leader who loves us!

Pics of Bridgetown, Barbados*

Thursday, April 26, 2007 2:06:15 PM (GMT Standard Time, UTC+00:00)

I just was forwarded some pics of the main town in Barbados and thought I'd share the best two of them.. This is mainly for my friends who don't live in Bim.

If you would like the other photos, leave your email and I'll forward them to you, it's about 7 total.. and I must admit that they are all great shots.

*Monday* funny!*

Wednesday, April 25, 2007 3:09:34 AM (GMT Standard Time, UTC+00:00)

Haven't had a funny for a bit but whilst talking to a female friend a couple seconds ago, I remembered this one that I found on youtube a while back. By the way.. the convo contained the word PMS.

L o l! Now even if you're a female.. TELL ME that isn't funny!

Iraq / Today.. "At least 15 people have been killed and 25 wounded in a suicide bomb attack on the outskirts of Ramadi, in central Iraq" .. "Nine US soldiers were also killed in a suicide bombing near Baqouba, ... Some 20 troops and an Iraqi civilian were also injured when the car bomb exploded outside their patrol base. " (BBC)

Football!!!*

Monday, April 23, 2007 2:06:02 PM (GMT Standard Time, UTC+00:00)

This week Champions League is back on Tuesday/Wednesday and the semis feature AC-ManU and Pool-Chelsea respectively!!! However.. this post is not mainly to note that, it's more to give you a glimpse of some serious football talent by none other than Barcelona's Lionel Messi. In the game this weekend against Getafe, Messi scored two EXCELLENT goals!!

In the first goal he starts from around the half way line and takes on about 5 Getafe players then the goalkeeper (GK) and scores a beauty from a tough angle. This goal's so good that it's being compared to the legendary Maradona strike where he does essentially the same thing.. The main difference though is that Messi is 19 years old! In the second goal, he shows some great control and "ROOFs it" giving the GK no chance! Anyway... enough talk, check out Messi's goals!

Akon !?!? 'Trouble' indeed!*

Monday, April 23, 2007 1:32:42 PM (GMT Standard Time, UTC+00:00)

Ref: Front of Akon's album, Trouble. Yea, I like a couple of Akon's tracks, especially Lonely, Locked up, Pot of Gold and more recently, Don't Matter. However Akon's actions in a Trinidadian night club as can be seen here have me a bit worried.. I never thought of him as this type of 'artist' and now it seems I have to add him to the category with Elephant man, Mr. Rick and the rest.

But the strangest part of this isn't really with Akon but it's that: 1. The girl is 14 years old; 2. Her father is a Pastor; and 3. Her father seems to be "cool" with his 14-year-old daughter going to a club and participating in dance competitions (I deduce this from a comment the father made i.e. "She likes dancing and won a competition," (Ref)). [Paragraph Source: here]

I don't know... this story sounds a bit incomplete, ah well.. this is another example of the "uses" of YouTube and sites like it (the story appeared first on youtube a day after the incident).

Iraq / Today.. "Three suicide bombers launched attacks in different parts of
Iraq on Monday, killing at least 27 people and wounding nearly 60 on Monday, police and politicians said." (Yahoo!)

dasBlog blogging client options for Ubuntu*

Sunday, April 22, 2007 7:34:56 PM (GMT Standard Time, UTC+00:00)

In my haste and excitement in experimenting with the new OS I forgot to say a huge thank you to John for helping me to setup ScribeFire. I came across John's site whilst searching the Internet looking for an offline blogging client. On reading that he was doing stuff along the same lines as myself (XP/Ubuntu guy) and also using the same blogging tool (dasBlog), I dropped him an email and he was more than happy to help me out!

For information on these blogging clients (ScribeFire, Drivel,
Blog Entry Poster) check John's blog post.

Ubuntu 7.04 Up and running!*

Friday, April 20, 2007 9:50:23 PM (GMT Standard Time, UTC+00:00)

Well, I did say, "by Saturday" :) ! What can I say..? So far, so good! The Ubuntu upgrade process from 6.10 ("Edgy Eft") to 7.04 ("Feisty Fawn") seems to have gone extremely smoothly. Before I ramble a bit on that though, I'll walk you through what I did in the event that any of you are upgrading.

To upgrade, you're given two main options: "Network upgrade" (i.e. online) or "Alternate installation CD" (i.e. offline). Keeping in mind that this is only Day 2 of this OS version being available and thus, the amount of people that will be downloading it or doing online upgrades (these guys commenting for e.g.), I thought best (for safety and speed) to do the offline install. To do this install you'll have to browse here and grab the Alternate install CD iso (~696mbs). Once you've downloaded this file, burn it (remembering to burn disk image and not a normal data burn - more info) and with Ubuntu 6.10 running, insert the CD and follow the instructions that pop-up on-screen.

Mostly the entire thing is smooth from then on.. The only two things I didn't get were: (1) at times.. this "offline upgrade" seemed as if it was going online for some of the packages.. and (2) someways into the install, a message popped up asking me if to keep or replace my login.defs file. For this, I quickly googled "login.defs" and didn't find any real issue with replacement (as I never edited it) so, I allowed the Replace. These were really the only two prompts I had so that's a definite (y)!

Once that was complete, time for a quick reboot and login (yep, that's right, I didn't have to set up new users or anything) and *taadaa*, I'm on to Feisty! And since it was an upgrade, all my proggies are still there.. my email client is still setup; when I opened Firefox, it opened all the tabs I had from 'last time'; my gaim details (btw gaim seems to be upgraded); xchat details; all still there! (To be honest, I doubt an uninformed casual user would recognise the upgrade as none of the desktop or panels have been changed...)

So.. in a nutshell, that's it! The only thing that worries me slightly is that pc people always say that a clean install is always the better choice.. but in reality, with this stuff coming out every 6 months (unlike Windows for e.g. which comes out every ~3 years), I think it's a bit impractical to clean install, so I really hope upgrading has no gotchas.

Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty Fawn) released*

Thursday, April 19, 2007 1:06:35 PM (GMT Standard Time, UTC+00:00)

Little under a week running Ubuntu and a new version (Feisty Fawn) is out for me to download/install! So far my experiences with Ubuntu have been good more than bad.. getting accustomed to the (cmd line) commands is probably the hardest task.. but the simplicity of finding and installing software matched with the appealing GUI and the "OS freeness" make up for it!

Anyway! So today, Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty Fawn) is released and unless I hear something horrid about it, I'll try to have it on by Saturday. Right now as I read a digg post, I'm seeing that servers are overloaded with hits to download the OS! My my.. it is really popular! I hope the upgrading process (from version 6.10, that I have, to 7.04) is (a) existent and (b) smooth! I'd dislike to think I would have to format and do a fresh install... not after all that configuration I've done!! We'll see though, we'll see!

Ah, and if you want the download link (torrent) my bud at tech-barbados found it. So you can check that out.

Iraq / Today.. "A suicide car bomb exploded in central Baghdad's Jadriya neighborhood on Thursday afternoon, killing at least 12 people and wounding 28 others" (CNN)

Iraq death tally.*

Wednesday, April 18, 2007 5:07:02 PM (GMT Standard Time, UTC+00:00)

Ref: http://www.foxnews.com/images/277422/2_62_041807_iraq.jpg As I peeked at MSN messenger today, I looked at my nick and my little "remembrance" *Candle* for the people who were killed in the Virginia Tech massacre in the US.. and I remembered something I was to do a while ago.. Hence.. this question came to me.. "What about the hundreds of people who innocently lose their lives in regions like Iraq each week?" ... I know.. it's not exactly the same but I think in both cases one needs to focus on the value of a life.

Therefore... I'm going to start the "something I was to do" from today... what is it?

From today, April 18th, I am going to try to record how many people die (and probably are injured) each day in Iraq or at least keep a tally. I'm not sure about what sources I'll use but I think CNN, Fox, BBC, Google and Yahoo! will be top candidates.

I hear some of you asking Why... why do this, what use does it have.. To answer... I think it'll help some us to appreciate the life we have.

Iraq / Today.. "Four large bombs exploded in mostly Shiite areas of Baghdad on Wednesday, killing at least 164 people and wounding scores" (Yahoo!). CNN notes that it's approximated right now at least 207 people wounded.

Blogger code of conduct?*

Wednesday, April 18, 2007 4:09:04 PM (GMT Standard Time, UTC+00:00)

Believe it or not, persons out there are now calling for a Bloggers Code of Conduct! Included in this code of conduct are points such as: "We [bloggers I assume] take responsibility for our own words and for the comments we allow on our blog.", "We won't say anything online that we wouldn't say in person." and "We do not allow anonymous comments."..

Ref: http://coxandforkum.com/ Personally, I'm not which sure what side of the fence I am on in this topic. I understand that bloggers should be made to take some responsibility but like someone else had noted.. anonymity is KEY online. By anonymity I mean: (a) If you don't what to disclose who you are, why should you? Especially for anonymous comments.. and (b) Even though someone may know who I am online because I disclose my name for e.g., there's still a "can't touch me offline"-facet associated with the Internet in general.

On the other side however, as a blogger, I believe things like Comment approval should me maintained so a blogger is forced to approve comments before they are made public. Here the blogger should use his/her "good sense" to filter comments. When dealing specifically with blogger content, I can relate to the drafted Code of Conduct with respect to not posting content that is:  "is being used to abuse, harass, stalk, or threaten others .. is libelous, knowingly false, ... violates the privacy of others". You know..basically, BE CIVIL!

Hmm.. as I look to the side of my blog window I see my disclaimer.. interestingly, these days I doubt you'll find a blog without one, .. some I've seen even declare that all the content is unreliable and readers should peruse at their own peril! *sigh.. I wonder where this topic will end up!

My .site., to come?*

Tuesday, April 17, 2007 2:03:40 AM (GMT Standard Time, UTC+00:00)

For the last three or so days, I've been constantly jumping between XP and Ubuntu.. and now I'm starting to recognise why del.icio.us, online RSS aggregators and the "My " homepages have grown so much in popularity - no one (except me) only uses 1 pc!

Soo.. now that I've got two "PCs/OSs", I'm thinking that it's time to make serious use of My Mashup project. Therefore.. as soon as I can I'm going to rebuild it to allow easy addition of RSS feeds, bookmarks, interaction with web services and even some MOTDs/QOTDs if I find them!

Then again... I could always use Google homepage.... but really, what fun is that! :)

300 - The movie best I've watched in a while*

Monday, April 16, 2007 9:05:39 PM (GMT Standard Time, UTC+00:00)

Ref: http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1809262865/photo/970425365 There're so many things I want to post about, I'm lost where to start! Topics range from 300 (which I watched this weekend) to the trials I've had while trying to get Ubuntu to work "for me".

Anyway, for this post I think 300 will take the floor (as you guessed from the topic!). This picture is G R E A T! On Saturday I got a chance to watch it and I was not disappointed at all. The action, the dialogue, the entire plot: (y)(y)! If you're considering this pic, I surely recommend it, I think it's even a contender for me to purchase the dvd! (.. lol, I just remembered when the Spartans fought the "immortals", lol, yea.. that name was really suiting.. lol!)

I'll leave you with a couple links: Official site (where you can get wallpapers, screensavers, photos, a synopsis of the movie & lastly, even preview the PSP game) and a Yahoo! site (for more photos). (Of course both these sites have trailers.) .. So now... to end this post fittingly...

Madness? ... THIS IS SPPPPPPARRRRRTTTTTAAAAAAA!!!!!!

Testing foreign (Ubuntu) waters!*

Sunday, April 15, 2007 2:22:29 AM (GMT Standard Time, UTC+00:00)

Well, since last week I've been thinking about trying out something different besides the same old Windows platform. SO! Yesterday, I did just that! I hopped over to Ubuntu.com, got what I needed and started the install process! Now.. a day, and some serious problems later (yes, serious!), I'm here! Blogging from Ubuntu! (By the way Ubuntu is a community developed, linux-based operating system... Yes, that's correct, I am using Linux!)

From what I've seen so far, it's pretty cool.. I really have to get used to this command line thing though, and also learning some basic linux commands. I'll definitely blog more on it later but for now I'm back to exploring! .. If only I can get this XChat working! *pff!*

Nested Data controls: Passing field values to code behind with LinkButton*

Friday, April 13, 2007 8:52:10 PM (GMT Standard Time, UTC+00:00)

Sometimes coding can be SOO frustrating, but other times, it is SOO cool!! I think one of the main things that I thrive on when I have a problem (with coding) is that "this is coding, there MUST be a way to get this done! A different way to skin the 'proverbial' cat!" Then... after a while, I usually get it done!

This time the problem was with asp:LinkButton (embedded in a DataList control ItemTemplate). Essentially what I wanted to to was to pass a field (abc_id) from the current DataList item, into the code-behind when the user clicked the LinkButton. Ideally, I would have liked to do the following (in theory):

<asp:LinkButton ID="Button1" runat="server" Text="ABC" OnClick="b_Click('Eval("abc_id")',Nothing)"></asp:LinkButton>

Then.. in the code-behind have:

Protected Sub b_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs)
'Do whatever... with the received "abc_id" which will be in the "sender" object
End Sub

The problem with this however is that you get the error, "'AddressOf' operand must be the name of a method (without parentheses)." i.e. you can't have the "('Eval("abc_id")',Nothing)" after the b_click or even just the "()"! Sooo, what to do now?

Well luckily on this site, the author lead me to a quite lovely solution to the problem that would enable you to pass field values nicely to the code-behind. The trick is to use the Command properties (e.g. OnCommand, CommandName, CommandArgument) of the LinkButton! So.. if I modify my original code above we'll now have:

<asp:LinkButton ID="Button1" runat="server" Text="ABC" OnCommand="b_Click" CommandArgument='<%#Eval("abc_id")%>'></asp:LinkButton>

And in the code-behind:

Protected Sub b_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal Args As CommandEventArgs)
    Dim abc_id as string = Args.CommandArgument
'Do whatever else... Oh and the "sender.id" and "Args.CommandName" can also be used.
End Sub

Nifty huh? I find this technique so useful in dealing with data controls (like DataList, FormViews and Repeaters) when they've been nested.

Misc midnight rambling*

Friday, April 13, 2007 6:34:01 AM (GMT Standard Time, UTC+00:00)

It's 2.21am and I'm up working on some "good ole" asp.net and reading some pretty interesting articles on MSDN. Today I managed to learn some real good stuff mainly in the area of URL Re-writing in asp.net (without IIS configuration!! I might add!). That was some headache at times though, there are tons of people claiming to have "the right solution", but usually it just gives you PAIN attempting to make it work.

Fortunately for me, I found two solutions and I used one to tweek the other, and *presto*, it works! For some reason though, I don't think it's an ideal solution but, like I said - it works!

I'm tempted to blog on "my" solution now, but as I write my eyes are slowly closing and I'm making too many typos, so I'll leave that post to another time.

Right now, I'm going to head back to work, see if I get an issue resolved then it's off to sleep!

CL football results!*

Wednesday, April 11, 2007 11:21:22 PM (GMT Standard Time, UTC+00:00)

Guys celebrate Crouch goal. Ref: http://msn.foxsports.com/id/6669830_7_2.jpg Truth be told, it's been a really interesting two days in football.  Yesterday, ManU crushed Roma 7-1 in what Totti now calls his "saddest night of sporting career", whereas Chelsea scored an 88th-minute goal to knock out the Spanish power-house Valencia. Those were definitely two heart-breaking games!

Today was somewhat less exciting as AC Milan deal with Bayern Munich in Germany, with a final score of 2-0.. and my squad, Liverpool, managed a careful 1-0 win over PSV to make it 4-0 on aggregate.

What does this all mean though? WELL! Besides having 3 English teams in the last 4, .. *clap *clap for England .. next up, in the Semis is: AC vs ManU and for yet another year... Chelsea vs Liverpool. These games will be on 24/25 April and the replay will be on 01/02 May 2007.

For photos on the games check this site. For the highlights, I recommend doing a quick search on youtube or metacafe. If you just want to read on the games.. go to the Official CL site.

Cricket World Cup ... what to say?*

Wednesday, April 11, 2007 1:43:21 PM (GMT Standard Time, UTC+00:00)

A distraught looking WI Captaion. Ref: http://content-www.cricinfo.com/wc2007/content/current/gallery/289853.html I really didn't want to post on anything Cricket World Cup related but after yesterday, I somehow feel obliged to. Today the headlines read, "Hosts West Indies were eliminated Tuesday from the semi-finals leaving four hopefuls.", "South Africa wins by 67 runs - WI now spectators" and "Lara: We are sorry".

This does not bother me so much that they lost, because everyone can't always be on top and also, I think the bitter taste of defeat at times, shocks people back to "the world of success". So.. I believe I heard WI have a test series coming up, so hopefully they perform well in that. My main issue with regards to this entire cricket "thing" is how much $$ (esp. foreign exchange) was pumped into it throughout the region (just Barbados alone, I'm seeing a figure of US $67.5 million quoted here).

Sometimes I listen to the "Brass Tax" (a popular call-in radio program), and we hear about the millions spend on refurbishing the Oval (or even the amount spent at U.W.I. Cave Hill with the 3Ws ground) and making it[the oval] "world-class" as I believe I heard a popular MC refer to it.. but, who will fill this "world-class" Oval now? As we all know, the faithful, cricket fanatics of India and Pakistan no longer have a strong reason to come to the finals (as their teams didn't get into the Super Eights), now the WI are out, so even though it's in our own countries, no real need to "go to the Oval/Grounds to support the boys"- as the "boys" will not be playing (and you can probably catch the match free on TV, and we all know: TV has good replays! ;))!

New Kensington Oval. Ref: http://farm1.static.flickr.com/146/398960485_2e51d43d3c.jpg?v=0 Now, if the little I know about tourism is correct, people from England make up quite a bit of visitors to Bim.. Hmm.. but England don't seem to be making it pass the Super Eights either! Not only this but in general, there has been buzz that "normal tourist" are avoiding the Caribbean to avoid any possible confusion caused by Cricket World Cup (CWC). So.. that's even less people right?

Cricket approximation figures seem to be constantly jumping around and here I'm seeing 25,000 being the current estimation for visitors to Bim. Even though... a good set of a these seem to be lodging on Cruise liners (which I thought were all-inclusive shops i.e. no need to buy anything here).

Anyway, it's time for me to leave this cricket thing and expenditure thing to the "experts". I feel sorry for those people who (under advisement) borrowed money to build additions to their homes to help "accommodate" the then-expected 75,000 visitors.. Hey wait! I just remembered that there's a bright side!! Arawak Cement plant hit a record in local sales due to the various construction projects related to CWC! (Ref) ... *shakes head*

GUID vs Identity as primary key (SQL server)*

Tuesday, April 10, 2007 12:34:03 PM (GMT Standard Time, UTC+00:00)

While building a database lately, I was called to make the decision on a primary key field.. now the way I usually do database implementation is to use an Identity and let the auto-increment take care of it. This time though while playing around a bit before heading to that solution I came across the GUID field type (a type that is also used for primary key or.. unique key requirements). To give you a little background on it though, I've included the snippet below..

"An alternative to using an auto incrementing value is to use the NewGuid method of a Guid object to generate a GUID, or globally unique identifier... The NewGuid method generates a 16-byte binary value that is created using an algorithm that provides a high probability that no value will be duplicated. In a SQL Server database, a GUID is stored in a uniqueidentifier column..." (MSDN)

Now, let's look at this excerpt properly:

1. "generates a 16-byte binary value" .. this usually is in the format of xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx. Yea.. pretty long eh? That will mean some overhead will be involved in the lookups. Not exactly a feature you would like in searching, sorting, joining, etc. Also.. remember, computers work better with numbers, this GUID seems just like a long string.

2. "an algorithm that provides a high probability that no value will be duplicated" .. a.. high probability.. well, that's good .. but with Identity (auto-increment), there will be no duplications period.

Those are what I consider the top two reasons to probably stick with an Identity ( i.e. autoincrement value).

One of my key sources for insight into this topic was here. Even though there's no Author name (hence some might say it is not that 'credible'), at least he/she put links for where they sourced their information from.

T'was a long weekend*

Tuesday, April 10, 2007 11:47:54 AM (GMT Standard Time, UTC+00:00)

You can tell I had somewhat of a busy weekend as I haven't posted since Thursday! Whether it was football, TV, meetings, etc.. it all was pretty cool. Definitely different to my usual day-to-day schedule.

I hope you enjoyed your weekend as well, but also, and more importantly that you remember WHY you had those 2 days (Good Friday and Easter Monday) off.

Glitch on ESPNsoccernet?*

Thursday, April 05, 2007 1:14:11 PM (GMT Standard Time, UTC+00:00)

Ref: http://soccernet.espn.go.com/indexThere I was, just looking for some photos to report on the Champions League results from Tuesday and Wednesday at ESPNsoccernet. Now if you're a regular visitor there like me, you know that on the first page they usually have a Standings Table from one of the European Leagues.. eg. German Bundesliga, La Liga or if you look at the photo to the right, the Premiership. So as it only takes a scroll, I checked it out.

To my surprise though, this time, the table was totally "knackered" as you can see from the screen shot on the left. Look closely at the points standings.. Arsenal in 2nd with 55 points?? Newcastle in 7th with 37 points??

I haven't a cluuee what went on here.. If they were doing a query to fill that table and ordering by PTs (points), that error shouldn't happen at all.. probably this isn't being ordered? And thus showing up in the default format in which the names are in the data store?

Not everyday one sees stuff like that... hmm, probably it just is that the DBMS made an error.. computers can still make errors... right?

Happy Anniversary bloG!*

I'm a bit late in posting however, I think it's only fair to say "HAPPPY ANNIVERSARY" to this Blog!

Today's 6 months since I wrote my first post back on October 4th 2006. And.. by now you should be able to tell what I've done to "celebrate" it... yep! A new Blog Design (as you can see on the right)!

This one took me forever to come up with, I'm sure my Dad would attest to the tons of different designs and graphics I flipped through before I got here.

I can honestly say after all that "worK" playing with designs and graphics, I'm completely satisfied with this one. One of my main goals at first was coming up with a nice, lively header (you know, to liven up my sometimes boring posts! :)).. Then after fiddling with some graphics, I remembered the photos of Barbados I took back in 2005.. and the one you see above kinda.. fit Perfectly in.. So I ran with that and.. well, *ta da*!

Anyway, as usual, I'd love to hear your comments, and once again, Happy Anni Blog!

Interesting Photos.*

Wednesday, April 04, 2007 1:49:02 PM (GMT Standard Time, UTC+00:00)

I came across some interesting photos online and thought I'd share. Do enjoy!

As it's Holy Week.. Here's a photo from Holy Thursday aka Maunday Thursday in 2006 I believe.

It's a Children's procession in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.

On 2nd April, BBC News reported, "At least 12 people have died in the Solomon Islands after a tsunami swept ashore following a strong undersea earthquake in the South Pacific." (Ref)

Tsunami's aren't any picnic at all.. as this lad to the left would attest to.

More attempts at Wi-Fi security*

Wednesday, April 04, 2007 12:06:55 PM (GMT Standard Time, UTC+00:00)

Classic Wi-Fi Network (Ref: http://www.home-network-help.com/wireless-network.html) Lately online, I've been seeing tons of posts, vids and articles on Wi-Fi (aka Wireless Networks) and how poor the security for them is. Actually, now that I think back a bit I remember a small "talk" in Barbados about a month ago which was appealing to businesses and homes to ensure their Wireless networks were secure.

To secure Wireless networks, there are a number of approaches, some people use WEP, others WPA (considered the better option), well now, I've found another solution which doesn't require you to know any of those "techie TLAs" above at all! In fact, you don't have to be any kind of "techie"!

Ready for this?? ... ... Wi-Fi Blocking Paint !! "One coat of this paint "creates an electromagnetic fortress by preventing airborne hackers from intercepting signals."" (Ref) One question I have though is how or if a cellphone would work while the caller is inside the "protected zone".. From the hint of this Yahoo! article, I'm not sure.. Either way though, I think this is not something we'll see in homes in a while, if at all, businesses, probably... as "hacking" Wi-Fi networks is the craze these days.

Champions League is back.*

Tuesday, April 03, 2007 12:09:17 AM (GMT Standard Time, UTC+00:00)

Last weekend in the EPL, Liverpool thumped Arsenal "well-good" (4-1 to be exact - Highlights viewable here) and tomorrow, they're playing PSV in Eindhoven in the Champions League Quarter Finals. I'm hyped as so far I've been hearing everyone telling me "you don't underestimate 'the Dutch Teams'".. plus, the names of Kone, Farfan, Cocu are ringing in my ears!

Anyway, hopefully I get to catch the match live and ESPN won't show AC-Bayern instead! (Even though I have a feeling they will.. after all, no one expects Pool or PSV to win.. do they?)

Monday funNy*

Monday, April 02, 2007 2:23:06 AM (GMT Standard Time, UTC+00:00)

So, this weekend, I had almost given up looking for a funny but now.. on Sunday evening, I received a forward (i.e. email) which perfectly fits the part! Read below! :)

Titled: His/Her Diary.

HER DIARY:

Dear Diary,
On Saturday night, I thought he was acting weird. We had made plans to meet at a cafe to have some coffee. I was shopping with my friends all day long, so I thought he was upset at the fact that I was a bit late, but he made no comment. Conversation wasn't flowing so I suggested that we go somewhere quiet so we could talk, he agreed but he kept quiet and absent. I asked him what was wrong - he said, "Nothing." I asked him if it was my fault that he was upset. He said it had nothing to do with me and not to worry.
On the way home I told him that I loved him, he simply smiled and kept driving. I can't explain his behavior; I don't know why he didn't say, "I love you, too."
When we got home I felt as if I had lost him, as if he wanted nothing to do with me anymore. He just sat there and watched TV; he seemed distant and absent.
Finally I decided to go to bed. About 10 minutes later he came to bed. I decided that I could not take it anymore, so I decided to confront him with the situation but he had fallen asleep. I started crying and cried until I too fell asleep. I don't know what to do. I'm almost sure that his thoughts are with someone else.
My life is a disaster.

HIS DIARY:

Dear Diary,
Today Real Madrid lost the football match. DAMN IT!

LOL!! Thanks a TON Buddy Lee!

Palm Sunday*

Sunday, April 01, 2007 7:29:04 PM (GMT Standard Time, UTC+00:00)

MT 21:9 And the multitudes that went before him, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.
